OUR LENS

Hi there! Thank you for visiting my website! I am Christina Young, photographer and storyteller for Christina Young Photography.

As I'm about to ask you for all the details to your story, it's unfair to ask without telling you a little about me...

I'm a romantic, a dreamer, a creative risk taker... I met the love of my life in 2008 through what I consider a leap of fate. Yes - fate, not faith. (I warned you, I'm a romantic.) My wife, Steph, proposed on Race Point Beach in Provincetown at sunrise in September of 2010. After dating for a few years, I had been anxiously awaiting the day- but had NO idea it was coming when it did, or I promise you I would have done my hair and nails at the very least. We had been in Ptown for the weekend with friends, and one of our friends convinced us waking up to see the sunrise was a must-do! So I guess my wife had been holding onto the ring for two months, and by the time it came to actually being at the beach, she still hadn't figured out how to ask me to marry her. In my typical nature, when the sun began to rise I insisted we take pictures with it coming up in the background. All I remember saying after a few snapshots had clicked, was "Babe, we're hogging the sunrise, we should take some of them", and as I felt a tug on my hand, I turned towards my wife who was down on one knee. I'd love to tell you that I remember anything she said, haha, but that would be a little white lie. All I remember is tears welling up in my eyes, and forgetting to breathe as my fairytale love story began to come true.

Like many of you, we took a two year engagement to save up enough money to throw one serious party. For us, it was important that we could invite all of the people who loved and supported our relationship, totaling nearly 200 people. So when I speak to couples who are investing serious resources to create a magical day, I can truly empathize with what it means to INVEST in a wedding. We've been there, and done that, and can honestly say- it was worth every penny. We were married in June of 2012 and were SO THRILLED that our dear friends Heather & Jesse Ciras from Ciras Photography were able to do our wedding- providing images like the one you see above. We had watched the weather all week as we were expecting it to rain, and lucked out that the storms circled around our venue, never soaking our guests. Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but you do always run the risk of temperamental weather! Every detail we worked so diligently to plan fell into place that night, making it one of the most amazing nights of our lives, and one we'll never forget. From the toast my sister gave making us cry (and herself I might add- who never cries), to the epic lipsync battle of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" between my wife's best friend and her step-mother on the middle of the dance floor, those moments are ones that we wouldn't trade the world for. And what's better? Our photographers captured every moment so that we could remember for years to come.

What's happened since then? Because yes, there is life after that crazy wedding you plan! The latest chapter to our love story began in August of 2015 when we welcomed our two beautiful twin boys, Jack and Luca, into our family. I will admit to you that parenting twins holds a whole host of challenges I don't know we could have ever prepared for... but our hearts are overflowing with love for these two little babes, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF

Let's be real. The details that make up the important stuff are the little tid-bits and character traits that define one's personality, showing you if you'll "click" or not! (Get it, click? Haha...) But seriously- here are a few things you should know about me if we are potentially going to work together (which I hope we do).

I am a TV Drama junkie- I can't get enough of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Chicago Fire, Nashville, and yes- ask anyone who knew me growing up, I was addicted to Dawson's Creek.

For about 8 years of my life I had over an hour commute each day to work which forced music to be my sanity - so I will admit that I have a healthy obsession with Sara Barielles. (Own every album, know every lyric, and stalk her concerts.) I also love country music- everything from Lady A, to Miranda Lambert, and Luke Bryan- especially Luke Bryan. (Fun fact- my son Jack has a little love for Luke too! He can be super upset and inconsolable, but if you put Luke on he is at peace and all is right in the world.) OH! And Ryan Tedder rocks my world- crazy talented lyricist.

I am a food junkie- although I love to cook, I don't get to do it as much as I'd like to- but my favorite thing to cook is Italian. My comfort food is anything cake- and red velvet on the really necessary days! My beer of choice is Pumpkin Shipyard or Alagash White, and for a red wine it has to be a Malbec, but for a white I am a sucker for Kris Pinot Grigio!

I am an extremely proud older sister of one younger sister and two younger brothers- which means yes, I'm the oldest of four children, and very Type A (this works out in your favor, I promise). Growing up in a large Italian family, we were spoiled with love and support, tons of good food, and many words of wisdom from our Nana & Papa. The most important advice that Papa ever gave me, that sticks with me to this day is this: (I used to think he wrote it, but at one point I googled it and learned it was by Wolfgang Riebe. Still great advice tho!)

"There are only two things to worry about, either you are healthy or you are sick. If you are healthy, then there is nothing to worry about. But if you are sick there are only two things to worry about, either you will get well or you will die. If you get well, then there is nothing to worry about. But if you die there are only two things to worry about, either you will go to heaven or to hell. If you go to heaven, then there is nothing to worry about. And if you to go hell, you'll be so darn busy shaking hands with your friends you won't have time to worry." - Wolfgang Rieve

Lastly, I love photography. I know you'd say that should be assumed, but I'll tell you- too many things are forced these days, due to financial needs and obligations. I shoot weddings because it's my "geek out" and I can't get enough of them. I think it's an honor to be responsible for documenting your day and telling your story through images.

SECOND SHOOTERS

For weddings I do work with two amazing second shooters. It's so important to capture your special day from every angle- and I am always SO delighted to see what my second shooters bring to the collection. If two shooters is not enough- you can hire all three for your big day!

WHAT'S IN MY CAMERA BAG?

I shoot with Nikon Products, and although I am constantly upgrading and growing my collection of equipment, this is what is in my camera bag:
